COMPLETED PROJECTS by DIXON NETWORKS CORPORATION
For more than 35 years, Dixon Networks Corporation has successfully completed a definitive range of fibre optic infrastructure design, engineering, and construction projects.
Our work speaks for itself. We invite you to review a listing of recent projects completed by Dixon, the report card of our company's management performance, and testimonials from a selection of our clients.
Engineering and Construction
Starcom Fibre One, Vancouver, British Columbia to Seattle, Washington
We provided engineering services to Starcom International Optics Corporation from the summer of 1993 to the summer of 1995 for the Starcom/AT&T Fibre One project that established a cross-border fibre link between downtown Vancouver, British Columbia and downtown Seattle, Washington. We were responsible for design and engineering, including participating in negotiations for permits in all of the jurisdictions on the Canadian side of the border. The work involved about 40 permits for construction in eight cities, municipal and provincial jurisdictions.
As well, AT&T Network Systems of Atlanta, Georgia contracted Dixon to build a substantial portion of the fibre link. The project's accelerated construction deadline required completion in approximately 10 weeks, utilized a 100-man workforce, and employed multiple construction methods, including several medium to large directional drilling machines and sophisticated bridge crossings on some of Western Canada's largest spans.
Inner City Fibre Ring, Terrace, British Columbia
We were retained in the fall of 1994 to secure rights-of-way, negotiate access agreements, design, and build a fibre ring extending approximately seven kilometres through the City of Terrace in Northern British Columbia. The project involved liaison with several jurisdictions, difficult directional drilling in heavy cobble, and the crossing of two major bridge structures. The project was completed in August 1995.
Construction
Duct Infrastructure and Cable, Vancouver to Mission, British Columbia
We successfully completed construction of 77 kilometres of duct infrastructure and installation of fibre optic cable for Rogers Cable TV in March 1993. The project was built almost entirely on active railroad right-of-way, with no disruption to rail traffic. The work was completed on time and within budget.
Fibre Optic Link, Lower Mainland, British Columbia
In 1998 we were engaged by Ledcor Industries Limited to construct 74 kilometres in the lower mainland, part of their National Link between Vancouver, B.C. and Seattle, Washington. The project involved detailed route analysis, survey, CAD, and engineering services. Accelerated construction methods were used to meet the aggressive scheduling demands of the project. We also supplied specialized services for crossing three major bridge structures.
Bridge, Trestle Road and Underwater Crossings
Fibre Optic Conduit, Vancouver, British Columbia
We completed design and construction of fibre optic conduit on the Patullo, Oak Street, Burrard, and Arthur Laing Bridges in Vancouver, British Columbia. These projects involved extensive liaison with approving authorities having jurisdiction over these large and difficult bridge structures.
Aerial and Underground Crossing, Vancouver, British Columbia
We designed and constructed the aerial and underground connections for the Burrard Street Bridge Crossing in 1995. The project involved route selection, topographic survey, design, and approvals. The work was complicated by numerous utility crossings and involved either liaison or approval from the City of Vancouver, B.C. Gas, B.C. Telephone, C.P.R./Marathon Properties, and the Greater Vancouver Regional District.
Road Crossing, Downtown Vancouver to Canada/U.S. Border
We provided detailed topographic survey and design services for Starcom International Optics Corporation's fibre cable link from downtown Vancouver to the Canada/U.S. border. The project involved route mapping, detailed survey, design, and drawings to meet the standards of numerous approval authorities.
Cable Installation and Splicing
Cable Placing and Splicing, Pacific Northwest
Pacific Fibre Link, LLC awarded Dixon Networks Corporation the Fibre Optic Cable Placing and Splicing contracts for its 185-mile link between the cities of Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon.
Cable Blowing, Whittier, Alaska
We established a world record for the fibre optic industry in November 1997 as part of the successful fibre blowing project we completed in Whittier, Alaska for Ledcor Industries Ltd. The highly specialized project entailed blowing 14,000 feet of double armored fibre optic cable in one continuous segment through a railway tunnel. The distance was a world record for blowing fibre.
